Meals
As we recently learned about time, I thought we should learn more vocabulary associated with it, through Meals.
Meal is Gohan ごはん, which is derived from cooked rice (ごはん) because in the olden days, all the Japanese meals consisted of rice.
So, when they wanted to say breakfast for instance, they just added the time of day with rice:
But there are other ways to say each meal. We can learn more through the illustrations below:
Let us list the food on the breakfast table:
Food on the lunch table:
Steak = ステーキ
Mashed Potatoes = マッシュ ポテト (Potato is じゃがいも)
Gravy Sauce = グレービー ソース
Rice = ごはん (Uncooked Rice is こめ)
Water = みず

Most of the vocabulary for food is quite easy since it's western and therefore would be in Katakana.
