山の日

 Mount Fuji 1920
Today is Mountain Day in Japan (やま の ひ) and it has been a public holiday since 2016.

It was created to give honour and thanks to the blessings of the mountains, since most of Japan consists of mountains. It was also a way to get people to visit natural spots.

This specific date was chosen because August has a Kanji that looks like a mountain, and 11 looks like two trees. It is also the only month on their calendar that doesn't have a public holiday.

Since it is a fairly new holiday, there are no customs to celebrate it. Maybe hiking or mountain climbing are encouraged.

I've always wanted to visit Mount Fuji (ふじさん) and someday I will insha'Allah!

NOTE:
Mountain in Japanese is called やま but when attached to a name it is さん. Both names are written as in Kanji.

  1. I love this Holiday idea, I think if the weather was nice here we could've got to see the Forts up the mountains or something. It must be fun to celebrate this in Japan, They can go to Mount Fuji or something.
